The goal of the Special Area Development Programme (SADP) is to rehabilitate and protect the environment through integrated watershed management. By implementing a comprehensive approach, the program aims to increase agricultural productivity and create sustainable livelihoods.
Funding Source
Since this is a Tamil Nadu state government initiative, funding is provided by the state government.
Subsidies and Benefits
- Community Lands: For soil and water conservation and water management activities on community lands, a 100% subsidy is provided.
- Individual Farmers’ Lands:
- If the land belongs to indigenous communities, a 90% subsidy is provided.
- For lands owned by Scheduled Castes, an 80% subsidy is provided.
- For lands owned by other classes, a 50% subsidy is provided.
Project Areas
The program is implemented in specific areas within the Western Ghats and nearby villages in the districts of Udhagamandalam, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari.

Eligibility
All farmers residing in the areas where the program is implemented are eligible.
